Megabass Destroyer Evoluzion C40 (2014 Limited)

Got my hands on a new rod by Megabass.

Have to ship it in from Japan as no shops in the entire Asia seem to carry this rod in their inventory since it's debut months ago apart from the Japanese themselves and America.

Megabass Destroyer Evoluzion C40

Model: F3.1/2-610ti
Length: 6'10"
Sub Name: Griffon Evolution
Action: Medium Fast
Lure Weight: 7-21grams
Line Poundage: 8-20lb
Guides: Fuji Torzite 10+1

And yes, it comes with it's own hard rod case.

First look:

The hardware used on this rod is the revolutionary new Torzite guides by Fuji mounted on titanium guide frames.
Claimed to be up to 35% lighter than Fuji's SiC and also much smoother under microscopic view.

Makes no difference if you asked me.
The traditional SiC also gets the job done.

Many small details are put into this rod.
Small decals, engravings and what nots.

The head lock is actually made of metal and carbon fiber although it seemed like plastic at first.

Finishing on the blank is awesome.
Glossy gunmetal from the reel seat to the first guide, then matte all the way to the tip.

As usual with Megabass rods, it doesn't come with hook keeper.

Handle is a 13.5" split grip EVA type.
A longer (16") handle is available on the higher poundage models.

After getting some feel on this rod, I decided that a lighter IS79UC reel suits it better in terms of weight distribution.

Feels very balanced in my hand.

Blank seems to be on the softer side for a 8-20lb rod.

Now for my unbiased and unprofessional review...

For a rod commanding such premium price tag, this rod has a MAJOR flaw.

It's sensitivity is only so-so.
Even with the much hyped titanium strands and carbon graphite fusion.

Somehow, the soft rod tip combined with the Torzites (slightly larger than micro guides) and the EVA handle sacrificed much of the sensitivity.

Compared to the Destroyer X7, the difference is very noticeable.

On the other hand, it might just be me.
I'm extremely meticulous when it comes to such things.
Meticulous to the point of insanity...

That being said, it's the ONLY gripe I have with this rod.

The rest I have to say about this rod are very much positive.

Aesthetically, this rod beats all other rods hands down.
From the hardware to the finishing with those fine details.

Paired with a lightweight low profile reel, this is where it really shines.

Casting is much more accurate and forgiving.
Not only that, it seems to favor all sorts of fanciful casting methods.

Regardless of how you cast, sideways or overhead, pitch or skip, it actually made things a whole lot easier and accurate.

Even with the short handle length, the rod can be easily loaded with a <10grams lure.

It gives me more confidence during casting which adds to the fun factor.

With a giant snakehead at the end of the line, this rod means business when pulled right to the bone.

It possesses the power to pull in large powerful specimens even with the seemingly soft blank.

All in all, this rod handles and looks like a dream, if the lack of sensitivity doesn't bothers you that is.

An extremely versatile stick suitable for all kinds of casting styles and environment.

Not only that, it actually packs a punch (a lot in fact) when you need that extra power.

Fury's First

Went Spot Fury this morning together with Jason and a couple of his friends.

Chatted about some things which happened to Jason recently.

Some 'man' behaves just like pussies...
Bitching around other people's back again.

Read all about my previous episode with Pussy HERE.

Cowardly 'man' behaving like a pussy and bitching his mouth off just for the sake of boosting his own ego is not worthy of anyone's time at all.

No surprise I got so many complains about him from many others.

Can't blame him actually.
A pussy should act just like a pussy, which is exactly what he is.

It's in his blood.

At least Jason is steady enough not to tell the entire world Pussy's identity even until the end when Pussy blocked Jason on Facebook.

Still got the cheek to ask Jason who is the one out there slandering him.

If it's the truth, it's not considered slandering.
It's simply just FACTS.
No point trying to defend yourself by acting innocent.

Now all Pussy can do is to block Jason on facebook, just like what he did to me previously.
And maybe hide underneath his wife's skirt again?

Exactly what a coward will do.

Back to my story telling.    ;)

Met up earlier for breakfast/kopi at a nearby place and after that, straight to Fury.

Long trek in as usual, laughter and jokes aplenty.

We began casting blindly at the first hole.

Absolutely no sign of any rises or fries.

After some time, I got an explosive strike on my top-water pencil lure.

Took me totally off guard!

Set the hook hard a couple of times and it's game-on!

This wild thing made some crazy dashes out towards the open water.
Gave my drag washers some good warming up in this cold morning.

This marks my first catch at Spot Fury.

It has been quite a while since I last landed a Giant Snakehead on the Surface Cruiser.

The 2-hooks configuration on this lure makes it hard to get proper hookup.

Those large gauge trebles on top of the Giant Snakeheads' hard jaws makes it even more difficult to drive the hooks home.

After some time of no further action since those 2 Giant Snakeheads landed by us, we trekked in deeper to another hole.

One of Jason's friend got a good take again on minnow and was landed successfully after some drama.

His line got tangled with the 2nd top most guide of his rod while landing the fish when it suddenly made a final dash for freedom.

Ripped the guide off cleanly from his rod's graphite blank due to the tangled braided line.

Anyway, the fish was landed and released after some phototaking.

It hid itself underneath some bushes to the left of where I was standing trying to regain it's strength and composure.

Snapped some photos of the worn out beast:

After some time of resting, it swam leisurely away back into the open waters:

Soon after, Jason got a huge take which bent his rod violently.

However, when he was setting his hook, the line turned slack.

Turned out that the treble on his minnow had straightened out as he did not change out those crappy original trebles for tougher ones.

That was basically the last action we had amid all the laughter and cursing.    lol

Wild Orchids

Knowing Jason, he will want to come back here again next week to exact his revenge.

Meowfish

HongXiang from Lurefisher came to Singapore for his company's retreat at Pasir Ris Chalet.
He stays in Perak but is working at Johor Bahru.

We decided to go to Farmway 3's Paypond for some catching up.

Jason joined us although he never fished.
Chatted and joked around like kids.  lol

After setting up, I suddenly realised that I had carelessly left Joe unlocked which was parked just at the entrance of the pond.

Walked back out to lock it.

When returning back to my rod, they were shouting for me and I could see that Jason was fighting a fish with my rod.

Managed to take this rare photo of him with a baitcasting setup:

Rod was passed back to me and I proceeded to make hell for the fish:

Little did I know that I had hooked onto a massive one at the end of my line.

Turned out that it gave me hell instead.   haha

For every metre I retrieved, the fish easily took back 2/3 folds.

Many times, I could only held onto my rod helplessly as it peeled off line easily from my LIN's tight drag setting.

It was lucky that I had brought along a heavier setup.

Monster was eventually landed after what seemed like an eternity of tussling.

The pond's staff had problems bringing up the big cat and I had to help him with it.

One of the rules of the pond is that the fish must not be subjected to further stress and hence, no weighing of the catches are allowed.

It was almost as heavy as Ling!

Released the monster after some quick photos.

Next up, Rong's turn:

Another cat successfully landed by Rong.

Not to be outshined, Shawn caught the 3rd cat for the night:

I can see genuine bliss and happiness... lol
That's our guest for the night in the background: HongXiang.

Cat was eventually landed.
The cat just kept hissing loudly and opening/closing it's huge mouth repeatedly in protest.

It must be hating Shawn to the core... lolol

Although HongXiang didn't manage to catch anything and Jason was there for the company, I could tell that all of us truly enjoyed this gathering and had a wonderful time...

New Spot: FURY

Went scouting for a new spot this morning with Jason.

After a long time of trekking, we found the place:

The water is so clear!

Found a Pitcher Plant which is pretty rare in these days.

These sadistic plants actually seduces insects into it's pitchers with it's sweet but deadly secretion.

Once trapped inside, the secretion will dissolve the poor insect just like acid.

Although we had many hits and misses, Jason managed to land one:

Tougher luck for me though:

Since this is a rather productive spot and I foresee myself revisiting it, it is only appropriate to give it a codename although it's my first visit there.

Spot shall be christened: FURY

Monster Boyboy

Look at the size of this thing!

Eat good, sleep good, play good.

So many of his kind are suffering out there in the wild and yet, this rascal seems to be enjoying every minute of his life.

Soccer

It's been more almost 2 decades I have last set foot on a soccer pitch.

Joined Bak Tiong and his colleagues for a session.

Interesting is, the older one gets, the smaller the pitch becomes.  lol

Roxy Yet Again

Out of the blue, Rong wants to come out to fish this morning.
Shawn had to be a stay home dad today.

Was actually planning on going to Spot Mars alone to catch some Giant Snakeheads.

Since Rong has not much luck at Mars ever since I started bringing him there, we decided to go Spot Roxy.

First cast got me something:

There were many missed strikes throughout the session.

There was even once when I managed to hook up a good sized bull in bright spawning colors.

Reeled it in after some tough fight but lost it when it leaped out of the water right in front of me.

Rong had a strong take as well but his line snapped early into the fight...

Chatted for a while outside before heading home after this short session.

Everyone seem to think that Ken has really lost it this time with his greyed out hair...  lol
